Wait!?! Isn’t Medicare enrollment automatic?
Don’t worry – if you are not quite sure about Medicare, you are not alone. The enrollment can be automatic, is yours?
Easy to find out – Can you say any of the following statements?
- I am (or plan to be) taking my social security or railroad benefits for at least four (4) months before I turn sixty-five (65).
- I have ALS or end-stage renal disease.
- I have been receiving social security disability payments for twenty-four (24) months before I turn Sixty-five (65).
Ok – not you? Then your situation is a bit more advanced. One more question, do you plan to enroll in Medicare before you take your social security benefits?
IF the answer is no, then you will be automatically signed up for Medicare Part A when you sign up for social security benefits.
If the answer is yes, then you will have to sign up.
Don’t worry though – this is normal. You are not alone. The stats show thirty-nine percent (39%) of women and forty-three (43%) of men have to sign up on their own.
